REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG -- The West Sumatra Provincial Administration has decided to delay the 2017 Tour de Singkarak, an annual professional road bicylce race, until Nov this year.

Head of Tourism Office of West Sumatra Oni Yulfian said here on Monday that the prestigious bicycle race had to be postponed, from the previously planned date of Oct 10-18 to Nov 18-26 to better prepare the event.

"The delay was decided after the deputy of tourism marketing and development had coordinated with the Indonesia's Cycling Federation ISSI," Yulfian stated.

The West Sumatra Provincial Administration has given its nod to the new schedule of the race, providing time for the organizer to conduct assessment and better preparation.

A survey team from the Ministry of Tourism will conduct a field survey to see the readiness of the tracks from Aug 3 to 11.

Tour de Singkarak will comprise nine stages crossing the regions of 18 districts and municipalities of West Sumatra Province.

The bicycle race, which is named after the Lake Singkarak in West Sumatra, is expected to start from Tanah Datar District and finish in Bukittinggi.
