Police to proceed Habib Rizieq's cases: Tito Karnavian

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said the police would proceed the cases that strangled Grand Imam of Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Habib M. Rizieq Shihab. The cases were handled by Jakarta and Bandung Metro Police. 

"Actually, we have examined him before. His status right now is as witness. We have summoned him also as a witness," Tito said at National Police headquarters, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (July 26).

Meanwhile, regarding Habib Rizieq status as suspect in the case of defamation to Pancasila, Tito said Habib Rizieq should have come to meet the summon.

"If he was a witness, we may examine him in other places. As a suspect, wherever possible he must be examined in the police office," Tito said.

Habib Rizieq was planned to come home on August 17 to celebrate FPI anniversary.
