REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received Governor of Aceh Irwandi Yusuf and Vice Governor of Aceh Nova Iriansyah at the Merdeka Palace, here, Tuesday.

Also present at the meeting were Muharrudin, speaker of the Aceh Legislative Council (DPRD), and his three deputies: Dalimi, Sulaiman Abda, and Teuku Irwan Djohan.

Several other officials and ulemas, or Islamic scholars, from Aceh Darussalam Province also attended the meeting.

The attendees included prominent figure and concurrently Wali representative of the independent institution Nangroe Malik Mahmud Al-Haytar, Aceh Administration Secretary Dermawan, Chairman of the Aceh Development Planning Office Azhari, and Head of the Aceh Education Office Dayyah Bustami Usman.

Walid Harmen, Tgk Rusli M Daud, Abi Hidayat, Tgk Ismi LC (Abu Madinah), and Tgk HM Yacob were among the ulemas present at the meeting.

President Jokowi was accompanied by Minister/State Secretary Pratikno and Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo.

Kumolo, on behalf of President Widodo, had inaugurated Yusuf and Iriansyah as Aceh governor and vice governor, respectively, before the Sharia Court in Aceh's Provincial Legislative Council in Banda Aceh on July 5, 2017.

President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana attended the inauguration ceremony of the Aceh governor.

Yusuf and Iriansyah were elected as Aceh governor and vice governor after winning the majority vote in the gubernatorial election on Feb 15, 2017.

They were nominated by the Democrat Party, Aceh National Party, Aceh Peace Party, the National Awakening Party, and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle.

Yusuf was the former governor of Aceh for the 2007-2012 term, while Iriansyah was a former member of the House of Representatives in Jakarta for the 2009-2014 term.

Yusuf had won the 2006 Aceh regional election as an independent candidate.
