Children of TKI at Sabah receive repatriation scholarships

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUNUKAN -- Hundreds of children of Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) studying at the Indonesian School of Kota Kinabalu and Community Learning Center have received repatriation scholarships to continue their higher education studies in 2017.

Head of the Indonesian School of Kota Kinabalu Istiqlal stated in a text message received here on Thursday that as many as 100 children of TKI received the scholarship as part of a cooperation between the Indonesian government and the destination schools.

The intended destination schools are State Senior High School (SMA) of Permata Insani in Tangerang in Banten, SMA or Vocational High School (SMK) of Islamic Village in Tangerang, Second State SMK of Simpang Empat Tanah Bumbu of South Kalimantan, SMA of IT Al-Huda Wonogiri in East Java, SMA of Marsudirini Muntilan, and First State SMK of Lembar in West Nusa Tenggara.

"In the third phase, a total of 100 students receive scholarships to continue their education in senior and vocational high schools," he stated.

He also noted that as many as 169 students of Indonesian citizens had completed their education in elementary and junior high schools in Sabah in 2017 comprising 55 elementary school graduates, 56 junior high school graduates, and 58 open junior high school graduates.

The national exam score has improved as compared to 2016 since the highest math score in elementary school was 97.5 points, while that of the junior high school national exam has shown an increase.

Arwin Agus got the highest score of 92.5 points in the elementary school national exam. Bintang Rizki Ramadan earned the highest score of 320 points in the junior high school national exam, and Namira Adriana got the highest score of 273 points in the open junior high school exam.
