Indonesia, Suriname to strengthen bilateral cooperation on small and middle business

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and Suriname would strengthen bilateral cooperation in small snd middle business sector. The cooperation was hoped to expand export and import market of Indonesian product to South America which is located near Suriname.  

“Suriname can be a link to export out product to America, for example furnitures. Suriname has woods, so Indonesian furniture industry can be expanded to Suriname," said the Director Generwl of Small and Middle industries of Industrial Ministry Gati Wibawaningsih in a press release on Friday (May 19).  

According to Gati, Indonesian government concerned in encouraging priority programs on economic development equality. The ministry had launched e-smart IKM (small-medium industry) program by utilizing digital technology to facilitate global product to enter global market. 

“In strengthening the product quality of small and middle business that we integrate to Smart IKM, we will train the domestic small and middle business through human resources facilities with technical program, coaching and certification," said Gati. 

The ministry also gave machinary and equipment aid, developing technical service unit, and new small and middle entrepreneurs. 

Previously, the Industrial Ministry Airlangga Hartanto said e-smart IKM was one of the effort to widen the global market and to face the industrial era 4.0. The use of digital technology to leverage productivity and conpetitiveness for small and middle business, so it could enter export market through smart IKM. 

Indonesian Embassy to Suriname Dominicus Supratikto said many potencies could be developed in Suriname. The country had routine exhibition named Indofair where Indonesian traditional art product displayed. 

The exhibition was held in six weeks by cooperating with Indonesian Embassy to Suriname and Javanese Association in Suriname named Vereniging Herdenking Javaanse Immigratie (VHJI). 

“We need Indonesian experts to train the practitionaires of small and middle business in Suriname, so they will be more productive and produce better quality product," said Supratikto. 

President of Commissioner in Trustbank N.V. James Rasam said, Trustbank cooperated with some Islamic banking and organizations in the world. He hoped the bilateral cooperation would encourage the young people to involve in making startup business in all industrial sectors. 

“We adopt new system from Islamic banking. We support small and middle business of both countries to cooperate," said James.  

Some businessmen in Suriname had stated their interest in cooperating with Indonesian people in developing business of food and craft. They had known the material and technology used by Indonesian people. 

TV Garuda Suriname had also cooperated with a local Surabaya TV station J-TV in presenting Javanese art and cultural program for Suriname.
