REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BUKITTINGGI -- Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) gave birth to three tiger cubs at Budaya Kinantan Wildlife Park of Bukitttingi, West Sumatra Province, on Tuesday.

"We received a report from the animal caretaker that the Sumatran tiger cubs were born on Tuesday at dawn," Spokesperson of Budaya Kinantan Wildlife Park Ikbal said here on Tuesday.

The cubs were given birth by a tiger named Dara Jingga after it mated with a tiger named Bancah.

The pregnancy was noticed by the zookeepers around three months ago.

Considering the gestation period of a tiger to be between 90 and 100 days, Jingga was predicted to give birth by mid-May.

The park authorities have limited the number of visitors to the tiger's area to avoid disturbances due to the presence of humans.

"The treatment for the cubs will be carried out as natural as possible. They will be with their mother for the entire period," Ikbal stated.

Previously, in Nov, another female tiger named Sean gave birth to three cubs.

Ikbal remarked that it has been the duty of the wildlife park and the local conservation agency to develop and maintain the survival of Sumatran tigers, a protected species which are critically endangered in the country.
