South Sumatra Governor invites Japanese business to invest in forestry

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin has invited Japanese businessmen to invest in the province, especially in forestry sector.

"There are many resources that can be used from the forest without harming the environment," the governor said when speaking at a seminar in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday (April 11), according to a statement received by Antara here, Wednesday.

The governor said the administration welcomed Mitsubishi Corporation to establish partnership related in environment and green economy fields.

Therefore, he invites Japanese small and medium enterprises to participate in green investment in South Sumatra.

"Moreover, South Sumatra has long been implementing green environmental programs, including in economy," the governor said.

Meanwhile, Head of Peat Restoration Agency, Nazir Foead, said he had seen a rapid progress on peat land restoration programs in South Sumatra. 

Therefore, South Sumatra Governor was invited to deliver a speech on peat restoration models that have business opportunities for the local people living in South Sumatra's swampy forest areas, he said.

The seminar was participated by academics from universities in Japan and leading companies' owners in Japan.

Governor Alex Noerdin gained a good response and appreciation from the participants related to green growth in South Sumatra.
