Chemical attack to Novel, Kontras: It is an organized crime

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinator of Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) Haris Azhar believed the incident was an organized crime. It was planned a couple of days prior the attack. "Novel's neighbors said they were aware of strangers milling in the area," he said on Tuesday.

The neighbors said those stranger looked suspicious. Haris said the perpetrator stalked Novel up to his personal activities, including prayer. They formed some groups to stalked Novel. "Some of them even have congregational prayer with Novel to get near him," Haris remarked.

Haris explained after conducting dawn prayer, Novel walked out the mosque while others were still dhikring. He walked home without any companion. "The assailants then took that moment to attack him with chemical liquid," Haris said.

Meanwhile, Novel's cousin, Anies Baswedan paid a visit to the hospital. Novel was treated to clean chemical liquid from his hands, face, and eyes. "The most severe was his left eye," Anies who is running as governor candidate in Jakarta gubernatorial election said at Mitra Keluarga Hospital, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
