"The FPU Jangkrik has a length of 192 meters and is 46 meters wide. This is the largest FPU to be ever designed, built, and assembled in Indonesia, and it will become operational in May 2017 at the latest," Jonan said at the Saipem Karimun Yard, Tanjung Balai of Riau Islands, Tuesday.

Gas production from the Jangkrik Field is targeted to begin by mid-year, sooner than its previous target of 2018, in accordance with the ministry's 2015-2018 strategic plans.

The FPU Jangkrik will operate in the Muara Bakau Block in Cekungan Kutei, Makassar Bay, some 70 kilometers off the coast of East Kalimantan. The ship has a designed capacity to process 450 million standard cubic feet per day of gas.

Gas produced from 10 undersea wells will be connected to the FPU that will process and distribute the gas through a 79-kilometer-long undersea pipeline. It will be channeled to the gas producers' network in East Kalimantan and will thereafter be distributed to end users in the region as well as to the Bontang LNG refinery.

FPU Jangkrik will also function as a refinery and to stabilize the condensate as well as to distribute it through a local distribution network to the Senipah condensate refinery.

More than 50 percent of Jangkrik Field's production will be utilized to meet the local gas demand and is expected to significantly contribute to meet the nation's energy demand and boost economic development.

The Muara Bakau Block is operated by ENI Muara Bakau B.V. since 2002, which owns 55 percent of the shares, along with Engie E&P, with 33.3 percent of the shares and PT Saka Energi Muara Bakau, with 11.7 percent of the shares.

The first gas field of Jangkrik-1 was discovered in 2009. Another gas field in the block, Jangkrik North East, was found in 2011, some 20 kilometers northeast of the Jangkrik Field.

The government has approved the Jangkrik Field's Plan of Development (PoD) in 2011. The PoD for Jangkrik North East was approved in 2013 that included the integrated development of Jangkrik Field under a single project, Jangkrik Complex Project.

Head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Executive Task Force Amien Sunaryadi, the ministry's Director General of Oil and Gas IGN Wiratmaja Puja, and Riau Islands Governor Nurdin Basirun also attended the event.
