REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police Chief Tito Karnavian allowed the National Movement to Guard the Indonesian Ulama Council's Fatwa (GNPF MUI) to conduct peace action on December 2 in Jakarta. However, he requested the action does not distrub public order.

According to Tito, demonstration is a constitutional right of citizens. Despite of that, the rally should be peaceful and not to disrupt public order. "Holding an action in the protocol roads is considered disrupting public order," he said on Monday at National Police Headquarter.

Therefore, National Police prohibits GNPF MUI's plan to have Friday prayer at Jalan Sudirman, the Hotel Indonesia roundabout to Jalan MH Thamrin. Tito said the peaceful act will disrupt road user.

Tito has given GNPF MUI suggestion to have Friday prayer at Istiqlal Mosque, Banteng court or Monas court. "Friday prayer at main roads certainly is prohibited," Tito said.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General M Iriawan said Friday is still includes weekdays. If the mass held Friday prayer at the main road, public activities will be disrupted. "If they want to have Friday prayer, they can have it at the nearest mosques," he said.

Previously, GNPF MUI announced its plan to have a peaceful rally on December 2. They asked for Ahok imprisonment as he was named suspect of religious blasphemy. "Because the police did not arrest Ahok, GNPF MUI will stage Aksi Bela Islam III (the 3rd action to defend Islam) on December 2 with the theme of Unity and Prayer for the Nation," Islamic Defender Front spokesman Munarman said.

On December 2 is coincide with Jumat Kubro (Great Friday) and the beginning of Maulid Akbar (main celebration of Prophet Muhammad PBUH's  birth). GNPF MUI said it will be the good time to pray together.
