REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The advocacy team of Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) would file a pretrial if Jakarta Governor-inactive Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) was stated innocent in the open case screening of alleged blasphemy.

"If the allegation of religious blasphemy are denied, we will oppose with legal mechanism, we will file a pretrial," Coordinator of advocacy team MUI Ahmad Yani in a press conference at MUI Building, Jakarta, on Monday (11/14).

According to Ahmad, MUI's advocacy team will oversee all legal processes that are running on the alleged blasphemy by Ahok. He respects the National Police effort to conduct open case screening on Tuesday (11/15).

"Nevertheless, the advocacy team believed with or without open case screening, the case clearly has elements of a crime," Ahmad said.

Today, at around 08.00 a.m. local time, the open case screening of alleged blasphemy by Ahok will be led by Criminal Police Chief Commissioner General Ari Dono Sukmanto. The police have invited 20 experts witnesses and representatives from various agencies and institutions.

The expert witness would give the views corresponding respective areas of expertise. As regulated by the law, the media is not allowed to live broadcast the open case screening.
