President orders Indonesian Military to strengthen identity

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the Indonesian Military (TNI) identity must be strenghthened. The TNI has the responsiblility as the People's Army, Army fighters, the National Army, and the professional army. "The sovereignty and honor of state ideology Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, national unity, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and national flag must be maintained."

According to Jokowi, the military presence in realizing Indonesia sovereignity, independency, and characterized is important in line with the increasingly challenges of the assignment. "Indonesia is not only face the open war, but also asymmetric war, economic competition, diplomacy competition, technological competition, and soft power competition," Jokowi said at the commemortion of 71th anniversary of the TNI which was read by TNI chief Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, held at Ahmad Yani Stadium, TNI Cilangkap East Jakarta, Wednesday (5/10).

President said that the TNI has to increase the shopisticated of Indonesia's primary weapons defense system (alutsista) and soldier’s capability as inseparable part. "Indonesia believed that the soldiers and military families should be prosperous, wherever soldiers are on duty," he said.

At the end of his speech, Jokowi conveyed 71th anniversary of the TNI to all soldiers and military families, including those who are on duty keeping the nation and the state, across the country and around the world.
