REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BENGKULU -- The Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia, Rob Swartbol, met the Governor of Bengkulu, Ridwan Mukti, in an attempt to understand Bengkulu's natural resource potential.
"The meeting was held at the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta. We explained Bengkulu's potentials, especially in maritime sector," Governor Ridwan Mukti said here on Friday.
At the meeting on September 8, the governor explained the province's vision and mission as well as several programs that are being accorded priority.
The maritime program in Bengkulu, is in line with President Joko Widodo's plans to build a sea toll and develop other maritime potentials, according to the governor.
The provincial administration will be developing the Baai Island seaport.
"We need Dutch assistance to develop this seaport as the country is well-known in its seaport construction and management," the governor explained.
In addition to the Baai Island seaport, the administration will also develop the Linau seaport in Kaur district and construct another one in Bantal, Mukomuko district.
The governor also elaborated upon Bengkulu's other potentials in the field of agriculture, plantation, farming, energy and tourism, especially historical tourism.
Ambassador Rob Swartbol appreciated the presentation made by the governor and expressed readiness to help the administration in developing the seaports.
The ambassador also evinced an interest in historical tourism and asked the governor to preserve the sites, including the Dutch remains.
In the near future, the ambassador said, the Dutch Prime Minister will visit Indonesia and follow up on Bengkulu's proposals.
