Jokowi, Najib discuss three strategic issues between Indonesia, Malaysia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak discussed three strategic issues between Indonesia and Malaysia during the PM's visit to the State Palace in Jakarta.

"PM Najib and I just held a bilateral meeting which went productively and openly," the president said at a press conference in the State Palace in Jakarta, Monday.

In the meeting, Indonesia delivered three main issues between the two countries.

The first involves the appointment of border areas and both countries agrees to intensify negotiation efforts and meetings.

"The second issue is the security cooperation in the Sulu waters and the surrounding areas, and Indonesia have expressed their concern regarding the abduction and hostage case in the area," he noted.

Indonesia supports the trilateral cooperation between Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia regarding the security of Sulu waters and for the measures to be immediately carried out, President Widodo added.

The third issue discussed during the meeting was regarding the protection of Indonesian nationals.

"We emphasize the importance of the protection of Indonesian nationals whilst working in Malaysia," he remarked.

On the occasion, the president also delivered his positive response towards two memorandums of understanding which are agreements between hosts of the palm oil producer countries secretariat and the ASEAN Banking Integration Framework agreement between Indonesian Banking Services Authority (OJK RI) and Malaysian National Bank.
