REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) expected all parties to protect the right of rape victims, Yn and her families in Bengkulu.
"The form of protection can be done in accordance of role of each party," said Deputy Chairman of the Agency Lili Pintauli Siregar, Saturday (7/5).
A form of protection, for example from the local government to provide recovery to the community in the area of the rape. This incident is surely caused fear and same society will become a victim.
"Therefore, governments need to take concrete action in the form of psychological recovery for communities and families. In addition, there should be the infrastructure improvements so that similar incidents can be avoided," said Lili.
Agency also hopes the media can contribute in providing protection for victims in accordance with the Ethics Code of Journalism (KEJ) such as the victim's name remains disguised. LPSK hopes the same thing doing in reporting the parents and families of the victims, as well as victims of school.
"By disguising the identity of the victim, the journalists have been protecting victim. That is why the role of the media are expected," said Lili.
LPSK also will take steps to provide assistance to the victim's parents, both psychological rehabilitation assistance or assistance in accordance with the Law on Witness and Victim Protection. In the same law,LPSK also possible to provide emergency protection to the affected families.
Victims of sexual criminal to child is victims is priority to receive protection, in accordance with the mandate of Law 41/2014 on Witness and Victim Protection. With so many perpetrators, it is possible there is a threat received by the victim's family.
Moreover, the village where the victim's family lived is near with perpetrators’s village. This is concern of LPSK because there are potential threat is huge.
"LPSK will immediately coordinate with the authorities to take real step to the victim's family. All of this to ensure the rights of victims' families fulfilled," Lili added.
