REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the National Commission Protection of Children (Komnas PA), Arist Merdeka Sirait said there were about 150 cases of children sexual violence in Indonesia are monitored by the Komnas PA until April 2016.

"All the cases of violence against children were reported to us, as much as 51 percent, or 150 cases are the form of sexual violence to children," said Arist to Republika in Jakarta, Saturday (7/5).

He continues, there are 312 violence cases against children were monitored since 2015 until April this year. But, these data is not national data. Because, he added, hundreds of cases reports are received by Komnas PA just from some of regions in Indonesia.

He added, rate of children sexual abuse is high and potentially to continue raise. In addition, the distribution of children sexual violence cases occurs in urban and rural areas. In correlation cases of rape and assasination of a junior high school student in Bengkulu, YY (14 years old), Arist confirmed that case is a serious crime. Therefore, he asked local governments to have special programs to prevent the occurence of similiar cases in their areas.

"The data we have observed, there are 312 cases of violence. But I am sure there are more cases. Therefore, we should have comprehensive efforts," said Arist.
