Ring road built on Doi Island, N Maluku

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TERNATE -- The district of North Halmahera(Halut) of North Maluku is building a 16 kilometer ring road on the island of Doi to facilitate distribution of farm and plantation commodities from the interior areas of the island.

Head of the highway development division of the district public works service Bernat Pawate said North Halmahera has priority to development of road infrastructure to rural areas.

Bernat said the ring road would open access to various villages previously not accessible by four wheeled motor vehicles.

He said the road is not paved with asphalt but is covered only sand and rocks on limited budget.

The ring road when it is completed would greatly contribute to the economy of the rural people, he said, adding distribution of goods would be faster and more efficient.

"The rural people including farmers and fishermen are enthusiastic with the project," he said.

In 2016, North Halmahera has a budget fund of Rp1 trillion to be used for education, health , basic infrastructure and other public services.
