REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Egypt Foreign Minister Sameh Soukry said his country hopes the fifth Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit could take concrete steps to end Israeli occupation of Palestine and Al Quds Al Sharif.

"Al Quds Al Sharif is still facing brutal aggression and occupation by Israel, politically, economically and financially," Soukry, representing Egypt as the chairman of the 12th summit conference of OIC said when opening the extra ordinary summit meeting of OIC here on Monday.

OIC countries should be united in putting pressure on Israel by bringing the Palestinian issue up to the United Nations and other international forums, he said.

"When we talk about peaceful solution for Palestine it would be two-state solution," he said.

He said Israel aggression has damaged Jerusalem physically by digging the ground under the Al Aqsha mosque.

"Aggression by Israel of Jerusalem has caused the Palestinian people to suffer, therefore, we need to give more support," he said.

Soukry also called for support from all OIC member countries to help in Gaza rehabilitation.

He said Egypt, which shares border with Gaza would open the gate to channel humanitarian aid for Palestinian in the war torn Palestinian territory.

Soukry expressed thanks for Indonesia for hosting the extraordinary summit meeting on Palestine and Jerusalem.

The 5th extraordinary summit conference of OIC would issue the Jakarta Declaration on Palestine and Jerusalem.

Meanwhile President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), who is named chairman of the 5th extraordinary summit conference of OIC called for solidarity of all Muslim countries to cope with the conflicts in Palestine.

"In the past two days I felt strong support and solidarity of the Muslim world for Palestine", Jokowi said on Monday.

He appreciated the results of the two-day OIC summit conference from March 6-7.

He said in the two day conference, leaders of the Muslim world rallied strong support to solving the Palestinian conflicts.

He said the summit conference adopted two very important documents - first resolution reaffirming the position of OIC facing the Palestinian and Jerusalem issue.

"The resolution is expected to be in line with aspirations of the Palestinian people," he said.

The second was Jakarta Declaration as an initiative of Indonesia which includes concrete action plan of OIC leader to solve the Palestinian and Jerusalem issue.

The president said Indonesian is ready to cooperate and implement the resolution.

Earlier Jokowi also called for stronger support for Palestine with concrete steps and renewed spirit for peace process by increasing pressure on Israel including through boycotts of Israeli products.
