REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, HONG KONG -- Indonesia is participating for the second time in a ballet competition at the "Asian Ballet Grand Prix" in Hong Kong being held on August 10-14, 2015, in the junior and adult categories.
"The event this year is also being organized to commemorate the five years of the competition, and this is the second time that Indonesia is taking part," Truli Rizki Ananda, one of the ballet coaches, stated here, Monday.
She pointed out that Indonesia reached the semi-finals for the junior category in 2014.
"We hope that this year we can achieve a better position. But, the important thing is to not focus on winning or losing but to consider the competition as a medium to expand our knowledge and improve the ability of the ballerinas," Ananda emphasized.
At the Asian Ballet Grand Prix 2015, the Indonesian team is represented by Namarina dance academy, which has sent seven ballerinas comprising children and adults.
The participants will be assessed based on their ability to master the technique of ballet, the ability of the dancers to synchronize their movements in tune with the accompanying music, and their appreciation of the characters that they depict.
"The participants will bring one of the repertoire ballets, such as Swan Lake. They will be assessed based on their dancing technique, musicality, and appreciation of the character of Odette, a character in Swan Lake," Ananda said.
She noted that all dance teams from other countries are strong competitors.
"Last year's winner was from Japan. But again, our focus is how to increase our insight and knowledge of ballet, including the technique," she reiterated.
She added that ballet has not been growing rapidly in Indonesia, so Namarina dance academy is keen to develop this dance form, among others, by participating in international ballet competitions held overseas.
