REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MERAK -- The search and rescue team (SAR) at Merak ferry port, Banten, will remain on guard during the Idul Fitri or Lebaran holidays this year to assist in evacuation efforts during sea accidents, an official stated.

"We will alternately stay on guard for 24 hours to undertake rescue efforts if any accident occurs," State-owned inland waterway transportation service PT ASDP SAR coordinator Suhardi remarked here on Thursday.

According to Suhardi, the SAR team comprises officials from the Water and Air Police (PolAirud), ASDP, and the National Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

He affirmed that the 22-member rescue team will stay on guard for 24 hours, but he expressed hope that the sea traffic activities at Sunda Strait between Merak port in Banten and Bakauheni port in Lampung will run safely and smoothly during the Lebaran holiday mass exodus this year.
