REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A day before Idul Fitri or the Lebaran festivities, the Gambir main railway station in Jakarta on Thursday was still crowded with a multitude of homebound travelers, traditionally known as "pemudik."

"Since 5 a.m. local time until 11:45 a.m. local time, on Thursday, there were as many as 13 train departures, with more than four thousand passengers heading to cities in West Java, Central Java, and East Java," according to Gambir station master Edy Kuswoyo.

According to Kuswoyo, a Semarang-bound Argo Muria train departed from Gambir station at 7 a.m. local time, transporting the maximum number of passengers, or around 425 people.

Moreover, he revealed that the Bandung- and Cirebon-bound trains had also departed in the morning with hundreds of other passengers.

"Normally, several people opt to leave for Bandung and Cirebon a day before the Lebaran holiday," Kuswoyo remarked.
