REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) disappointed over Setyo Novanto's appointment as the House of Representatives speaker at plenary session in Parliament building on Thursday morning. KPK chairman, Abraham Samad said that all legislature should consider each name who did not have conflict with the performance of combating corruption.

"We disappointed with the election," Samad said via text message on Thursday.

Golkar's treasurer was recorded at the Commission as witness in investigations of four corruption cases. KPK has even examined his office due to suspicion of taking part in some cases.

"Actually KPK expected the new House speaker who was clean and had no connection with law cases," Samad said.

In a plenary session, a number of parties from Red and White Coalition, namely Golkar, Gerindra, Democratic Party, PAN, PKS, PPP voted Novanto as the next chairman. They also selected four deputy chairmen, namely Fadli Zon (Gerindra Party), Agus Hermanto (Democratic Party), Taufik Kurniawan (National Mandate Party/PAN), Fahri Hamzah (Prosperous Justice Party/PKS).

Hamzah also have ever been connected to law case at KPK. PKS Deputy of Secretary General often proposed KPK dissolution. He considered that the Commission often set the status of suspects and prosecute officials arbitrarily.

According to Samad, the election of new leaders already reflected the dispute between KPK and the House in next five years.
