REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) reported that it would not intervene in the handling of the legal case of two Indonesian police personnel who were arrested in Malaysia on charge of drug possession.

"The Polri will not interfere in the legal proceedings of the two arrested in Malaysia," said head of the Information Affairs of the National Police's Public Relations Division Senior Commissioner Agus Rianto on Monday. "We are concerned because two members of the police have been arrested," he said.

Earlier, the Malaysian police (PDRM) had arrested two Indonesian police personnel allegedly involved in drug trafficking in Kuching, Malaysia. One of the arrested is a middle-ranking officer, with a rank of adjunct senior commissioner who serves as deputy director for Drug Investigation Division III named Idha Endri Prastiono, and the other is Brigadier MH Harahap, a member of the Entikong subdistrict police, West Kalimantan.

According to Rianto, the investigations are currently being carried out by two investigators from the PDRM. In addition, he said, the regional police chief of West Kalimantan has sent a team to coordinate.

"We will continue to do everything we can, but in principle, we leave the issue completely to the PDRM investigation," he said.

Agus claimed to have no knowledge of the details related to the involvement and role of IE Prastiono and Harahap. "We are still waiting for complete data from the PDRM investigators. The West Kalimantan Police team has not brought complete data," he said.
