President issues seven instructions on presidential election to the Police and Military

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono issued seven instruction related to presidential election on July 9, 2014. The seven instructions were particularly addressed to the National Police and Indonesian Military.

"There are seven instructions to the Police and Military. I hope community to provide support to the implementation," Yudhoyono said after a cabinet meeting on Thursday in Jakarta.

The first instruction, president asked the Police and Military to put attention for the next general election. They must ready to face all conditions.

Second, ahead of July 9 and untill the safest condition, the Police and Military must be stand by position. Third, the election authority (General Election Commission) together with the Police and Military must prevent violations related to the election throughout the country, such as criminal actions, vandalism or arson from anyone and any party.

"They have to be fair, neutral and do not tolerate such bad behaviour," Yudhoyono added.

Fourth, the National Police should help if there is violation on election rules, which led to criminal actions, such as money politics and intimidation. It must not be tolerated. Fifth, President urged the Police and Military to coordinate closely to the general election authority, local government, press and media.

Sixth, Coordinating Minister of Political Legal and Security Affairs will take direct control of all security operations, which are carried out by the Police and Military. Seventh, President will monitor and supervise closely the voting process.
