REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- Vice presidential candidate Jusuf Kalla firmly believed that Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Chairwoman Megawati did not intervene Attorney General Basrief Arief in connection with a graft case involving the procurement of Transjakarta buses.
"Ibu Megawati is a noted stateswoman, and thus, I believe it is impossible for her to have intervened in the graft case, which was handled by the attorney general," Kalla noted here on Thursday.
It was earlier rumored that Megawati had a telephonic conversation with Attorney General Basrief Arief, requesting the Attorney General's office to not implicate presidential candidate and non-active Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo in the Transjakarta graft case.
"I believe that it was impossible for Megawati to do so. Never did she do things like that. The police should thoroughly investigate about the rumor," Kalla noted.
Kalla further stated that it was part of black campaign, and therefore, the police should investigate the matter completely.
