MRT construction starts in October 2013

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Development of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) will be conducted in October 2013. Despite the 25 year long of study, PT MRT is optimistic that construction will go smoothly.

President Director of PT MRT, Dono Boestami said in the first phase, MRT station will be built in north-south corridor, from Lebak Bulus to Hotel Indonesia Circle for 15.7 kilometers with 13 stations consist of seven elevated stations and six underground stations with total travel time of 30 minutes.

Distance between stations about 0.6 to 2 kilometers. Train that will be provided about 16 sets which one set consists of six train wagons. Target construction will be completed in 2017.

"MRT might not reduce traffic congestion and pollution in Jakarta, but it can provide people an alternative transport that is faster, more convenient, safer and more realiable," Boestami said recently.

MRT construction is estimated spending funds worth 139.901 billion yen or 15 trillion IDR for the first phase.

For second phase, along corridor of Hotel Indonesia Circle to Kampung Bandan is estimated spending costs of 133.110 billion yen.
