Two candidates tell reasons for withdrawal from Democratic Party's convention

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The committee of Democratic Party's convention has announced 11 presidential candidates on Friday. Earlier, two candidates told their reasons behind their withdrawal from the convention.  

Former chief justice of Constitutional Court, Mahfud MD, admitted he received psotivie response from the committee. Yet, doubt still lingered and after some considerations Mahfud decided to withdrew his candidacy.   

"Every political party must strive to rise its electability in constitutional ways. But i don't think I need to participate in such political contest," the member of National Awakening Party (PKB)said.

Meanwhile another candidate, CEO Lion Air Group Rusdi Kirana, decided to focus more on his job at the airline company. He said that Lion Air needeed his full attention as the company had ordered large number of aircrafts until 2017. But, he claimed to be ready to participate in the 2019 presidential election. 

Currently, the 11 confirmed candidates are Ali Masykur Musa (member of Supreme Audit Institution or BPK), Anies Baswedan (rector of Universitas Paramadina), Dahlan Iskan (Minister of State Owned Enterprises), Indonesian Ambassador to US Dino Patti Djalal, former chief commader of armed forces Endriartono Sutarto, Gita Wirjawan (Minister of Trade), Hayono Isman (member of parliament), Irman Gusman (Head of Regional Representative Council), Marzuki Alie (head of parliament), former chief of army Pramono Edhie Wibowo, and Governor of North Sulawesi Sinyo Harry Sarundajang.
