At least 511 refugees of Mount Rokatenda evacuated

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Local government of Palue Island continues to evacuate eruption refugees of Mount Rokatenda in Sikka regency, East Nusa Tenggara. At least 511 people around Mount Rokatenda were evacuated from Palue Island to Maumere.

"Most of refugees comes from Koa, Rokirole and Nitunglea village. They were evacuated to safe place in Maumere and Uwa," Head of Data, Information of Public Relation in National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB), Sutopo Purwonugroho said on Tuesday.

Evacuation was started on Sunday using six motor boats that have been prepared by local government in Palue Island and Sikka. Purwonugroho added logistics for refugees was sufficient up to four days ahead.  About 20 thousand masks, 500 packages of clothing, 500 packages of family kits, 500 packages of kid toys and 1,000 blankets were sent to refugees.
