Bulog anticipates rice demands during Ramadhan

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Despite the price of rice is still stable, Bureau of Logistics (Bulog) has taken some anticipations. Bulog is a state agency charged with the task of strengthening food resilience and stabilizing food prices.

The Executive Director of Logistics Board, Sutarto Almoeso, said the increasing of the rice price was still low, which was in around 0.47 percent. But, to maintain the price, the board has prepared 460,000 tonnes of rice.

"Our target is that the increasing price is not more than a percent in Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr," he said on Saturday.

Yet, the board may import the rice if it is needed. He explained, the national stock of rice reached 2.4 million tonnes, but national needed at least 7.2 million tonnes per three months.

"Until March next year, we asses thaat the rice production is still minus. The national rice procurement is about 10,000 tonnes a day. If necessary, we may have to import rice," he said.
