REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy governor of DKI Jakarta Sandiaga Uno had heard from Central Jakarta mayor Mangara Pardede regarding an alleged prostitution around Tanah Abang area.

He ordered the mayor to close down the area.

"I have heard the news. And, Mr. Mayor (of Central Jakarta) also has conveyed the information. So, I ordered him to close down the prostitution area," Sandiaga said in Cipete, South Jakarta, Sunday (Nov. 5).

According to Sandiaga, an organization called Kebangkitan Jawara dan Pengacara (Bang Japar) also reported him an alleged prostitution business in West Flood Canal, Tanah Abang. He said, he would not tolerate the illicit business in the capital.

"I also got the news from Bang Japar. They said, West Flood Canal has been a red-light area," he said.

In 2015, local government has cleared out illegal shelters in West Flood Canal to rehabilitate Tanah Abang area. The illegal shelters allegedly used for prostitution.

Jakarta provincial government gained credits from the society for not extending Alexis hotel and its massage parlor business permit.

Therefore, Alexis had to stop their operation started from October 31.

Governor Anies Baswedan said, his team received reports from citizens and news coverage that Alexis hosted high-class prostitution services.

On the other hand, the people also urged government to close down prostitution in other places.
