We are aware of the risk in cancelling reclamation project: Marco Kusumawijaya

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- City planning expert Marco Kusumawijaya said the synchronization team of Jakarta governor-elect are focused on the exisiting legal mechanism to stop Jakarta bay reclamation project. 

They are aware of the risks in cancelling the reclamation project. One of it was the objection from developers involved. 

They might sue provincial government for their lost on investment. "Of course, that's one of the thing we have to think about," Marco who represent Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno's synchronization team said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

However, Marco believed developers will reconsider their plan to file a lawsuit. He said the developer has no right to sue or even ask for compensation as the reclamation project was a violation to the law. 

Marco explained the developers have not met legal requirements. They have been working on the project without having building permit (IMB). Moreover, the island of reclamation has been developed without zoning regulations. "It is against the law so if the demand for compensation, I think they will surely lose," he remarked.

Anies-Sandi planned to convert the usage of existing reclamation island. The options were to functioned it as urban forests, fishing settlements, ports to open beaches.
