Jakarta governor-elect promises to complete five-years tenure

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor-elect Anies Baswedan and his running mate, Deputy Governor-elect Sandiaga Uno, have reiterated their commitment to completing their five-year tenure from 2017 to 2022.

In response to the press questions, Anies said he and Sandiaga shared the same commitment to not run for presidential elections in 2019.

"Both of us have committed to complete our duties in Jakarta from 2017 to 2022," Anies Baswedan told the press here on Friday, after attending a plenary meeting of the General Election Commission (KPU) of Jakarta that officially announced him as Jakarta Governor-elect, and Sandiaga as Deputy Governor-elect.

KPU Jakarta announced that Anies-Sandi pair emerged the winners of the Jakarta gubernatorial election (pilkada).

Anies-Sandi won 57.96 percent (3,240,987 votes) from a total of 5,591,353 votes, Sumarno, chairman of the KPU Jakarta, said following a plenary meeting on recapitulation of ballot count.

The pair defeated incumbent Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok)-Djarot Saiful Hidayat, who collected 42.04 percent (2,350,366 votes).

Anies-Sandi won the elections in five municipalities and one district of Jakarta, namely Kepulauan Seribu District, and the municipalities of North Jakarta, West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, East Jakarta, and South Jakarta.

The new Jakarta governor and deputy governor will be inaugurated in October this year.
