REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The movie 'Habibie & Ainun' will be shown in several countries, such as Singapore, Japan, Germany, and Malaysia. The film is taken from the autobiography of former Indonesian President BJ Habibie.
The producer of the movie, Manoj Punjabi, said the story of 'Habibie & Ainun' was close to people. Many people can experience the same story. "The purpose is to make the viewers feel connected to the film," Punjabi said after the premier of 'Habibie & Ainun' on Monday.
So far, Japan has signalled positively. Punjabi is optimistic that the movie can be success. The movie will also be played in 130 theatres in Indonesia.
The love story
53 years ago in Germany, an Indonesian studied in Aachen. He is known as Rudy Habibie, abbreviated from Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie. He promised to return to Indonesia to build the country.
When Habibie still studying in Germany, he met Ainun, his high school friend, in Bandung, West Java. Habibie proposed Ainun and took het to Germany. He promised to make an air plane for her.
It was not easy for them to live in Germany. Lacking money, they had to live in small flat. Years went by and Habibie lived successfully in Germany. However, he preferred to devote his knowledge for his own country.
Habibie returned to Indonesia, preparing aircraft industry. His work was dedicated for his loving wife. Even when he successfully made his first aircraft, Gatot Koco N250, he presented the aircraft as a gift for Ainun. "This is a gift for your birthday. This is my promise 32 years ago," Habibie said to Ainun.
