Iraq invites Indonesian companies

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister of Energy, Hussain Ibrahim Saleh Al-Shahristani, invited Indonesia's oil and gas companies to participate on Iraq's development. "The cooperation on energy is very big as Iraq tries to boost its oil production," the Spokesman of Indonesia's vice president, Yopie Hidayat, explained the meeting between Vice President Boediono and Al-Shahristani on Monday.

He added that Iraq was constructing a complex of petroleum and gas and building infrastructures such as roads, airport, and port. "We need participation from foreign companies," he said. So far some companies from China, Europe, Korea, and US have participated.

"Iraq open bidding every week," he said. Now, Iraq is waiting for Indonesia to participate.

Besides that, Iraq also invites Indonesian professional labors to work in Iraq and Al-Shahristani said Iraq condition was safe now.

Iraq and Indonesia are planned to sign memorandum of understanding on oil and gas on Tuesday. Recently, some Indonesian companies, such as Pertamina, have entered Iraq, but only in small number.
