REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Following the big success of his first album, Maher Zain released a new album entitled “Forgive Me” on April 2, 2012. The new album was more universal and could be enjoyed not only by Muslims, Zain said in an exclusive interview with Republika on Monday. 

In the new album, he sings two songs in Bahasa Indonesia, “Ku Milik-Mu” and “Tuntunku Kepada-Mu”. It is not the first time Zain sings in bahasa. In his debut album, he sang “Insya Allah” featuring with Fadly Padi in Bahasa. 

“This time I sing alone. I don’t do duet. Just me and my heart,” the Muslim Swedish said.

Besides singing, he also wrote the song, arranged the music, and he produced the album. With his all ideas, he finished the album in six months.

A song in his new album, “Number One for Me”, is already a hit. But he believes that people will like his other songs. This album is a little bit different than his first. It is more universal so that everyone, not only Muslim, can also enjoy this album. “Number one for me is dedicated to all mother in the world,” he said.

The title of his album “Forgive Me” contains a positive message. “We are human. We are not perfect and do many mistakes. If we do something wrong, just ask for the forgiveness sincerely,” Maher Zain said. In this album, he also reminds people not to be hopeless in facing problem.

Zain makes a special song for his one-year-old daughter named Aya Zain. The song is entitled “My Little Girl”. The voice of his beautiful daughter is also presented in that song. “I believe that many people will like the song,” he said.

Plays in a TV series

Apart from his new album, Zain is involved in Indonesian religious TV series aired on the next Ramadhan. It is entitled just like his first single “Insya Allah, will find the way”. Zain will play a role as himself. “I mainly speak English in this movie. Fadly translates it for me,” he said.

Fadly, a lead singer of an Indonesian group band Padi, is also involved in this TV series. “With Fadly, I took a journey. We were involved in many situations. It was very fun and excited,” Maher Zain said.

During the shooting, he stayed in Indonesia for three weeks. “It was very hectic,” he explained about living in Indonesia. At that time, he should go to the scene early in the morning and come back home late at night. Also, he should finish his second album.

Yet, he feels comfortable living in Indonesia. He is even interested in making video clip in Indonesia. “Maybe in Bali,” he said. Asked about why he liked Indonesia, he said, “It is comfortable because I can hear adzan in every corner of the city,” he said.
