Marriage cards to be given along with marriage books

Govt has planned to issue as many as 2..5 million marriage cards in 2019.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Director General of Islamic Guidance at Ministry of Religious Affairs, Muhammadiyah Amin said marriage cards will be given along with marriage books. However, at this time, marriage cards will be given only to couples who are married after application Simkah was launched on Nov 8.

In the future, marriage cards might also be given to couples who are married before Simkah web is launched. However, it will be given with strict terms and condition. Thus, married couples are not required to have marriage cards.

“It’s not mandatory, because the cards are printed only for 500 thousand pairs,” Muhammadiyah said on Tuesday (Nov 13).

Muhammadiyah said the policy to issue marriage cards is intended for several provincial cities throughout Indonesia as a pilot project. This is in line with the progress of Simkah web using.

In 2019, government has planned to issue as many as 2.5 million marriage cards. Muhammadiyah said the issuance of information technology-based marriage cards (smart cards) is one of the output products of marriage registration services at Religious Affairs office (KUA).

Marriage cards are issued along with launch of a website-based Marriage Management Information System application (Simkah web), which was used by KUA to manage the administration of marriage registration. The marriage cards will contain relevant marriage information such as names, marriage certificate numbers, marriage book perforation numbers, place and date of marriage.

Marriage books and marriage cards  which will be given to married couples are given a QR code that can be read by using a barcode / QR scanner that is connected to the Simkah application. Muhammadiyah said QR code is given to solve fake marriage books problem.

Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah Central Leadership chairman Anwar Abbas advised Ministry of Religious Affairs to dissuss about marriage card policy with Commission VIII House of Representatives (DPR) and Islamic mass organizations. Therefore, the ministry could avoid its new policy to became controversial.

“So it should be discussed first, so all parties understand and support, and there is no controversy,” Anwar said on Monday (Nov 12).

Anwar also said in the fourth of Pancasila pillar said the popularism is led by wisdom in deliberation / representation. Therefore, he asked Ministry of Religious Affairs to invite community elements to discuss.

“If there’s a breakthrough that will be carried out by the ministry, elements of people should be invited to discuss, so there will be no pros and cons,” Anwar explained.

Anwars said in every policy that issued by government, there must be pros and cons. However, it can be minimised bt dialogue. Moreover, Indonesia is known as a nation that promotes deliberation.

According to Anwar marriage card is a good idea because it would ease Sharia hotels in Indonesia to identify marriage status of the customers. So, the sharia business can avoid things that prohibited by religion.

However, he assessed Ministry of Religious Affairs does not need to erase marriage book. Anwar said marriage book is also important.
