President offers condolences on the death of KH Hasyim Muzadi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo has expressed his condolence over the death of KH Hasyim Muzadi. Kiai Hasyim was a member of the Presidential Advisory Board the period 2014-2019 and former chairman of Islamic organization in Indonesia Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) from 1999-2004.

"Today we have lost the greatest son, Mr Hasyim, who passed away this morning at 6:15 am at his residence in Malang. On behalf of the government, on behalf of the people of Indonesia, I expressed condolence, I hoped Allah (God) accepts his spirit and grants him the best place," the president said after inaugurating the Post Cross-Border Nanga Badau, in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan, Thursday (March 16).

Based on the official release from the Palace, in the eyes of the President, the figure of KH Hasyim was a scholar and teacher who always keep the nation of diversity in the country. "He was great cleric and ulema, a scholar who is always calms the situation, always comforting our heart, a teacher that maintain diversity in our country Indonesia," Jokowi said.

Hasyim died at the age of 73 years, this morning at 06.15 am local time at his residence, Islamic Boarding School Al Hikam, Malang, East Java.
