Sudiana: We build harmony among Hindus and Muslims

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR – Bali has its own story about harmony among religious people. The Chairman of Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia (PHDI) of Bali, Prof I Gusti Ngurah Sudiana, said Balinese Hindu had the custom on bringing food in Eid al-Fitr for Muslim and Galungan for Hindu.

The interfaith kinship is also seen on some temples in Bali. One of them is named after Makkah. In Makkah temple, Hindu cannot eat or serve pig as it is considered haram for Islam.

“It shows how our relationship is harmonious,” Sudiana said.

Dialogue is also the first choice to solve religious tension in Cirebon, West Java. Usually attended by all representatives of religions in Cirebon, the dialogue prevented misunderstanding in among religious people, the Chairman of Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB) in Cirebon, KH Uzer Solihin, said.

“It is always conducive and safe because dialogue is foremost,” Solihin said on Tuesday.

The clash indeed ever occured when a meeting hall was functioned as house of worship, he said. But, the problem solved after returned to the rule of Joint Secretarial Decree (SKB) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Interior. While personal approach is more favorable to solve such sensitive issue.
