Ranked first in LSI survey, ustaz Abdul Somad: Ignore it

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ustaz Abdul Somad responded a survey result of Lingkaran Survei Indonesia (LSI) led by Denny JA. Ustaz Somad was ranked first in the survey as ulemas followed by the people.

Beside ustaz Somad, four other prominent preachers also were stated as the most influencial figures in presidential election 2019. The survey said people tended to listen to the appeal of ustaz Somad (30.2 percent), ustaz Arifin Ilham (25.9 percent), ustaz Yusuf Mansur (24.9 percent), ustaz Abdullah Gymnastiar or Aa Gym (23.5 percent), and Habib Rizieq Shihab (17 percent).

However, ustaz Somad thought the survey was not important. He said it has no important meaning.

"Just ignore it, brother. Let's set it aside," he said when contacted by Republika.co.id on Friday (Nov 16).

LSI survey revealed religious figures have big influence to voters in election. According to the institute researcher, Ikrama Masloman, religious figures have a strong influence evenly in all segments of voters.

Ulemas’ appeal were heard better than other figures, such as politicians, observers, businessmen, academics to famous celebrities influence which only less than 12 percent.

“Ulema is not a profession, but people see them as identities, as exemplary, faith and become patrons," said Ikrama on Wednesday (Nov 14).

The survey said ulemas could be the key to attract women’s votes. The survey revealed as many as 56,5 percent of women listened ulemas’ appeal, which men only 46,9 percent.

Based on General Election Commission (KPU) data, the total voters that  included in Permanent Voters List (DPT) are 185,732,093 residents. They spread in 34 provinces, 514 districts / cities, 7201 sub-districts and 83370 sub-districts / villages.

Referring to the data, the number of female voters DPT is 92,602,853 people. While, male voters are 92,481,776 people out of a total of 185,084,629 domestic voters.

The presidential candidates in 2019 election currently are seeking to win women’s votes. Both incumbent President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) - KH Ma’ruf Amin pair and Prabowo Subianto - Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno pair have female volunteer base.
