REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TASIKMALAYA — A vice presidential candidate of presidential candidate President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), KH Ma’ruf Amin said the real caliphate system was not suitable in Indonesia. The system was automatically rejected since Indonesia was built based on agreements.

“Some people asked why caliphate is rejected? I said it was not rejected but not suitable. It violated the agreements,” said Ma’ruf when giving tausiyah on Halaqah Alim Ulama and Silaturrahim West Java Islamic Boarding Schools on Monday (Oct 22).

Therefore, the caliphate did not need to be argued in Indonesia. He stressed that caliphate system was clearly contrary with what was agreed in the country.

Ma'ruf asserted it applied not only caliphate, but also to all systems that violate agreements, including kingdom or empire or emirate system. He said those systems are actually Islamic. However, the systems are not suitable if applied in Indonesia.

Ma’ruf said the agreements that had been built by the founders of the nation must be guarded by ulemas and kiai to prevent the country from being hit with conflicts similar to Middle Eastern countries.

"Every effort to undermine this agreement must be controlled so that there is no noise that makes this country dissolve," Ma’ruf explained.
