In political year, which ulema should be followed?

Ustaz Bachtiar says amid differences between ulemas, Muslim should not get provoked.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Founder of Ar-Rahman Qur'an Learning (AQL) Islamic Center ustaz Bachtiar Nasir said that Muslims should adhere Islamic teachings, including in political year. He reminded Muslims to follow Alquran and sunnah in choosing leaders.

"Muslims can not be separated from their ulemas. The question is, when the ulemas have different opinions, which one should be followed? Now, we are practicing our maturity," he said to Republika.co.id on the sideline of 10th anniversary of AQL in South Jakarta, Tuesday (Sept 11).

Ustaz Bachtiar asserted differences should not destroy unifying elements in Indonesia, namely ulemas and ulemas' institutions. Muslims should guard the two elements as some parties have been trying to ruffling it.

Ustaz Bachtiar called on Muslims to not get provoked by parties who wanted to destroy unifiying elements of the country. The perpetrators were unknown, but he assessed it did not came from the two camps that would compete in presidential election 2019.

"The situation is different than we think, so don't let us to be confronted in the name of Islam," he said.

According to ustaz Bachtiar, confrontation between Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and not NU was one of the examples. He also mentioned clashes between 212 group with Banser and Ansor.

Meanwhile, ustaz Bahtiar said he would follow Alquran and sunnah in political year. He has stated his stance since 411 and 212 rallies. He would not change his stance.
