REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Chairman of Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Zainut Tauhid explained Kiai Tengku Zulkarnain's open letter to National Police chief Tito Karnavian is a personal stance. However, he considered Tengku as MUI Deputy Secretary General has showed his critical attitude.
"An open letter written by Tengku is form of his critic as a citizen of this country over National Police chief's statement that he thought has to be corrected, in order not cause misunderstanding among Muslims," said Zainut on Wednesday (Jan 31).
Zainut personally appreciated Tengku for his critical attitude. MUI invited all parties to build tabayun attitude or calrification of all news and information, in order to avoid slander and misunderstanding.
He quoted the Quran, Surah Al Hujarat verse 6 that said "O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.".
According to Zainut, God forbids people from following rumours, information, and news that not certain yet. He said, Allah The Al Mighty told people to ensure the truth of a news that they heard through the process of clarification (tabayyun), because not all the news is true and based in on real fact.
"So, people must always beware of falling into the act of defamation and slander," Zainut added.
Zainut said that MUI appreciated Tito's goodwill to give clarification and also strengthen kinship with Islamic mass organizations. He assessed it is a part of tabayun process.
"Hopefully through the kindship forum, all the problems can be solved and there is no misunderstanding again among fellow Muslims," Zainut said.
