REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Secretary-general of Jakarta chapter of FPI, Novel Bamukmin said, the return of Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader Habib Rizieq Shihab could be hampered since the National Police has not dropped the alleged pornographic case. He did understand police has the authority to decide whether to continue or dismiss investigation of a case.

However, he saw no indication of the issuance of the Letter of Termination of Case Investigation (SP3). "If there's no SP3, Habib Rizieq probably will postpone his return until the right time," Novel explained on Monday (Jan 29).

Novel assessed, the police has not show goodwill to respond to the Muslims voice. "The police must realize that Habib Rizieq has important role in keeping the unity of our nation and Pancasila," he said.

By dropping the pornographic case alleged involving Habib Rizieq and Firza Husain, police could prevent an uproar in the society. Novel said, many people believed Habib Rizieq was criminalized with the case. "People will not stand still," Novel remarked.

Novel said Rizieq wants to return to Indonesia because of da'wah call in the country. Meanwhile, Rizieq's lawyer, Eggi Sudjana previously said Alumni 212 fraternity is ready to welcome the return of Rizieq from Saudi Arabia. The group has asked the police not to arrest Rizieq upon arrival and said they would not be responsible if it will trigger a riot. "If his return is hampered, there is certainly a consequence. It is not from us, but the situation because we want him to go home," said Eggi.

National Police investigators have questioned Habib Rizieq both as witness and suspect in an alleged steamy conversation case in the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on July 27, 2017. Habib Rizieq has denied the allegation.
