Indonesia has to lead protest against Trump's decision: MUI

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Kiai Ma'ruf Amin concerned with United States (US) President Donald Trump's unilateral decision that recognizes the status of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. 

Kiai Ma'ruf said, Trump's decision has caused many people worried because it could threaten international security. 

According to him, Indonesia should be the leader in refusing Trump's move on Jerusalem status.

Therefore, Kiai Ma'ruf will lead United Indonesia Action for Palestine or also popular as 1712 action at the Embassy of the US and around National Monument on Sunday (December 17).

He asserted that 1712 action should be followed by all Indonesia Muslims. Kiai Ma'ruf also invited all of interfaith communities to come together.

Kiai Ma'ruf also said that defending Palestine is the obligation for all Indonesian people.He assessed conflict in Palestine is a humanity tragedy.

"Indonesia as a Muslim-majority country that has long fought to encourage independence of Palestine is concerned with Trump's attitude," Kiai Ma'ruf said on Thursday (December 14).

"The world is already screaming. Many people asked Trump to revoke his decision and demonstrations are held in many places. We also must voice our concern," he added.
