REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI) Hasanuddin AF stated services offered by nikahsirri.com not aligned with Islamic teachings. The services were not relevant to the essential purpose of marriage, he said.

Hasanuddin explained nikah siri (unregistered marriage) would be haram if it caused harm to the parties. For example, when the husband left his wife without taking any responsibility.

"The marriage will be haram as it brought harm to the wife and children," he said while citing MUI's fatwa in 2015 has been issued on the case.

Furthermore, Hasanuddin thought nikahsirri.com practically has committed the business of implicit adultery. He was aware that the business exploited women.

He called on the people to realize that approaching adultery is forbidden by Islam.

Nikah siri, he said, would be allowed in Islam as long as it was done in a right manner. It must be done with a goodwill to build a family.

"Nikah siri will be justified by Islamic law if it is performed for everlasting marriage, the terms and conditions are fulfilled and the essential of marriage purpose is met," he said when contacted by republika.co.id, on Monday.

On Saturday (September 23), the Ministry of Communications and Informatics through the Directorate General of Applications and Informatics has blocked website nikahsirri.com because it has been troubling the community by providing services of contract marriage and offers a virgin auction.
