Jokowi meets GNPF MUI at Presidential Palace

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA –- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met the representatives of National Movement to Safeguard Indonesian Council of Ulema’s Fatwa (GNPF MUI) at Merdeka Palace on Sunday (June 25). After having direct conversation with the president, a member of advocating team Kapitra Ampera said to feel relieved.

The meeting discussed about law enforcement efforts in Indonesia. Kapitra said Jokowi had given a concern to law and enforcement justice. He convinced to implement equality before law. As a law-based country, Indonesia would not allow law enforcement conducted by breaking the law itself.

“This makes us relieved as the president enthusiastically said it to us,” said Kapitra at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Sunday (June 25).

The meeting was attended by seven representatives of GNPF, namely M Kapitra Ampera, Yusuf Matra, Muhammad Luthfie Hakim, Habib Muchsin, Zaitun Rasmin and Deni. There was also the Chairman of GNPF Bachtiar Nasir.

According to the acting secretary of GNPF MUI, Muhammad Luthfie Hakim, the president said he was never intended to not accept ulemas of GNPF. Luthfie said Jokowi stated in his previous meetings with ulemas, he never ordered to crossed GNPF ulemas name from invitation list. 

"President said it was only a misscommunications," Luthfie remarked.  

Furthermore, Luthfie said Jokowi has ordered Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security, Wiranto, keep on communicating with GNPF to resolve problems in the society. 

State Secretary Pratikno said the meeting was held in an open house, as requested by the Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin. GNPF expected to communicate with the President. It also stated to fully support governmental policies and national development. They also wanted to appreciate the president.
