REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PURWAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said national unity had been serious problems lately. He hoped that the traditional preachers (kiai) and ulemas would take active roles in keeping it.

“By the spirit of tolerance, we showed the world that Islam is a peaceful religion, rahmatan lil alamin, and Indonesia is a nation with unity in diversity,” said Jokowi in Purwakarta on Tuesday (Apri 25).

Jokowi said, when the Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani visited Indonesia, they wondered on the peaceful condition in Indonesia. It was kept under the diversity of ethnics, cultures, languages, and religions.

In Afghanistan, said Jokowi, different groups caused internal battles among the society. Indonesian condition also raised Ashraf’s interest to conduct bilateral cooperation. He wanted Indonesian ulemas came to Afghanistan to teach its society about the importance of togetherness.

Jokowi also delivered a speech about Isra Mi’raj. He said Muslims should not forget to conduct prayers. By doing the prayers, every Muslim would have stronger faith. It would impact on better harmony among the society. The harmony would be good example for other nation.

“There should not be any friction,” he said.
