Itikaf programs are underway in mosques

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - As we entering the last ten days of Ramadan, some mosques begin their  itikaf programs. Ali Mustafa Yaqub, chaplain of Istiqlal mosque said that the last 10 days of Ramadan commenced on 21th ramazan or 31 of july. He hopes that many Muslims are eager to participate this program

The itikaf program in Istiqlal Mosque features various kinds of religious activities. It sets to begin with reciting Al quran at 02.00 am and it will be continued with night prayer until 04.00 am. By then the participants are able to have their sahur or pre dawn meal. The participants no need to be worried about the meal since the mosque prepares it for them.

Yaqub asserted that the last ten days of Ramadan were important because "Laylatul Qadr" or the night of power happened in one of those days. Thus he encouraged all Muslims to compete for better performance in their worships. He further informed that in the 27th night Minister of Religious Affairs Suryadharma Ali would invite President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to join night prayer. The other ministers and the diplomats are also invited. 

Generally in the last days of Ramadan the mosque’s committee administer infaq(donation), zakat (alms) given by people. Thus for those who wants to give zakat or infaq they are able to come to mosque directly. 

The committee chairman of Baitul Ihsan mosque at Bank Indonesia complex plans to held itikaf for executives in the last ten days of Ramadan. Some public figures will attend this program, including former chairmand of People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hidayat Nur Wahid and some other ministers.
