Aceh to be a religious tourism

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Aceh is ready to improve religious tourism and become the number one destination for religious tour. "The effort is also to respond the increasing number of Muslim tourists travelling to Muslim-majority countries," the Economic Staff of Aceh Governor, Jasman J. Ma'ruf, said on Tuesday.

In recent years, a number of tourists especially from Malaysia visit Aceh. Most of them come to Aceh to celebrate Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

Government knows that Aceh needs to develop tourism objects and attraction to draw more tourists. He said that Aceh would soon hold religious events and compile it into a package for tourists.

"Both Muslim and non-Muslim tourists are attracted to Baiturrahman Mosque. The mosque is a form of religious tour," he said.

A research conducted by two marketing companies, Crescentrating from Singapore and DinarStandars from US in 47 countries says Muslim community in the world will spend 192 billion USD in 2020 for travelling. It also says that Muslim-majority countries, such as Egypt, Malaysia, and Indonesia, are popular tourism object.
