REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KABUL -- At least one person died with 30 others wounded after a suicide bomber detonated a truck bomb near Afghan capital's international airport Monday, causing panic among the residents, sources said.

"About 30 civilians were admitted to different hospitals after Monday evening's bomb blast in Kabul," Ismahil Kawossi, a public health ministry official, told Xinhua.

Nine children and three women were among the injured, he said.

The blast took place at 06:40 p.m. (1410 GMT) when the attacker struck Camp Baron, a heavily protected residential compound of foreign civilian contractors in Hawa Shinasi locality, according to a source.

The explosion damaged nearby houses and shops with most of the wounded receiving injuries by shrapnel and flying windowpanes and glasses.

Some of the injured remained in critical conditions.

The Taliban militant group claimed responsibility for the incident.

Zabiullah Mujahid, a Taliban purported spokesman, told local media that a Taliban fighter conducted the raid on a "foreign occupying camp" killing and injuring dozens of the foreigners.

It is not immediately known if any foreign national was killed or injured by the attack as security officials were yet to release information and confirm the casualties of the attack.

Earlier on Monday, a lone attacker was killed after a car bomb was detonated in airport main road but the target of the blast still remained unknown.

In northern Mazar-i-Sharif city, gunfight between Afghan commandos and gunmen entered its second night as the security forces were trying to eliminate the attackers and put an end to the 24-hour siege near the Indian consulate office.

Nearly 1,600 civilians were killed and more than 3,300 others wounded in conflicts and Taliban-led attacks in the first half of 2015, according to UN mission figures.
